Inside my empty bottle I was constructing a lighthouse while all the others were making ships.

Dolphins. I love them as much as they love to drag race our bow. Here I am sitting by the pulpit, “I find it so odd the names they invent for boat stuff, do you know how many different words there are for rope?” and I have my legs over the side. I am hoping the dolphin will jump up and touch me. Every time he jumps I yell ‘Hi!’ I am like the birds from Where’s Nemo but instead of repeating Mine! Mine! Mine! my chant is Hi! Hi! Hi! Dolphins jump out from the water quite often.

This week’s photo challenge is quite that – challenging. In the Background: Take a picture of yourself or someone else as a shadow, a reflection, or a lesser part of a scene, making the background, or the foreground, the center of attention.

It did get to dip in when the boat tilted my way… 😉 but sadly the dolphin didn’t kiss it.

I LOVE the dolphin picture and envy you so much right now. I haven’t been that close to one since a trip to Sea World when I was still a single-digit age. Your adventures never cease to amaze me, my friend.

Last year there were a bunch of dolphins near our anchorage so Leo had me get ready and he took me out to them in the dinghy, every time I jumped in the water they swam away. I tried it over and over again, the closest I got was 5 feet. I figured they were feeding so I gave up and let them eat in peace…

The first time it happens you will think you’ve been blessed with good fortune. The feeling doesn’t change really even after you’ve found yourself surrounded by over a thousand of them!

so much fun when you are on a boat and the dolphins swim along side and surf the wake.
I hope one day you get those dolphin kisses

Yes. It is such great fun… maybe, who knows if it will happen (hopefully I won’t lose a toe in the process)

Looks so nice in both pictures. We can’t seem to get to summer here in MN. It’s so green it looks like Ireland but it’s chilly. I want the heat!

Beware of what you ask for… you know how hot & humid it will get once it kicks in! Remember what the midwest is famous for (and I’m not talking bbq ribs)

Great shots, Marie! I love them both. And good interpretations of the challenge. I love the highlights on the water above the dolphin.

I cheated. The dolphin pic was… well, I tried and tried to capture a good image but it wasn’t happening so I switched to video then I snagged a still from the vid. Don’t tell anybody, I hate cheaters!

Oh, that’s not cheating. All’s fair in love and photography! 🙂 I wonder how a polarizing filter might have worked… Of course, one can’t just ask the dolphin to hold still while running to your camera bag to get the filter out!

Right? And on the boat, I keep a limited supply of photog equipment (says the girl with 4 cameras always on hand) so my SLR is without all its extra gear and stuff. Not sure I would dare dangle the SLR over open water when the waves are crashing. However, I do need a new cam so maybe a drop would be a perfect excuse…

That’s where I’d pull out my UW setup. At least it would be in a waterproof housing (says the girl also with four cameras on hand.) Of course, then, there would be no way to put a filter on it! It’s a great shot anyway. And a great interpretation of the challenge.

Feel like I’m there with the dolphins. HI DOLPHINS!!
And what lighthouse is that? Looks a lot like Peggy’s Cove in Canada, but not.

I’m not sure. I think the lighthouse was either on Prince-Edward-Island or by a cabin I rented years ago on the Ottawa River. Sorry.
